What's up with UpToDate?

I am on a Fred Hutch computer in my office but UptoDate is not working. It is asking for a Login (not recognizing the institutional affiliation). I tried accessing UptoDate through the link on the Arnold Library page and the same problem occurs.


Answer

Until July 2019, access to UpToDate from the Fred Hutch campus was granted through UW's license to allow UW practitioners to easily access UpToDate directly from the Fred Hutch campus without requiring login through UW. When UW renegotiated their license this year, the provision to include the Fred Hutch IP range was discontinued.

The price quote received from the vendor for a Fred Hutch site license is very expensive (around a third of the Library's total subscription budget) and would require significant cuts to other subscribed content in order to add a subscription for this single resource.

UW affiliated faculty and other practitioners will continue to be able to access UW's subscription through the UW website using their UW NetID credentials.

Other individuals, departments or programs at Fred Hutch who do not have access through UW, for whom UpToDate is a critical resource, could consider individual or smaller group subscriptions as a more cost effective solution.
